Our friend Beth Katz's Mount Washington home was just featured by Domino Mag and we wanted to share its warmth and charm with you!
Beth is an LA-based ceramicist and the woman behind the celebrated Mt Washington Pottery. We've been lucky to collaborate on a few projects, including lighting for Lingua Franca Restaurant, and a limited collection of ceramic table lamps with woven shades.
Beth also happens to be basket-obsessed, which likely helped to cement our friendship. Here is an excerpt from the article -
I ask her if she needs a basket intervention. “I will forbid that! I can’t stop, and I don’t want to,” she says with a laugh, acknowledging an obsession that started when she was a teenager. Throughout her hilltop home in the Mount Washington neighborhood of Los Angeles, woven delights are neatly stacked on top of one another, hanging languidly in the bathroom, and snuggled up to each other in her on-site studio. The connection from baskets to clay is evident in Katz’s work; she’s the mind (and hands) behind L.A. cult favorite Mt. Washington Pottery, her style often marked by textural, reedlike grooves. - Samantha Weiss-Hills
Beth's home is richly layered with natural textures and colors from her pottery, basketry, and textile collections. The house was originally built in the 1920s as a hunting cabin, but over the 30 years Beth has lived there she has transformed it into what she describes as "a beach cottage stuck up in a tree".
